Patrick is the President of HANCB (2017-2019). Patrick began working in HIV/AIDS nursing when the epidemic began in the early 1980's and has continued in that field for more than 30 years. He was a founding member of the AIDS Task Force of Philadelphia and served on the Board of Directors and Secretary of the organization at one time. He was asked by The Surgeon General, C. Everett Koop, to be on his panel for AIDS awareness and treatment. He has authored several textbook chapters (labor relations for the critical care nurse manager, mental health and HIV); nursing journal articles (HIV, men in nursing, epidemiology, pharmacology, protecting yourself from violence on the job, medication errors) and has spoken extensively across the country. Patrick presented on Men in Nursing at the International Council of Nursing in Malta in 2011 and also at the International History of Nursing Conference in Denmark in 2015.
Patrick is treasurer for Hands Holding Hearts, a children’s grief and loss organization.
He is a past secretary for the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care.
He is past President and Treasurer of the PA State Nurses Association, the professional organization that represents PA's 218,000 Registered Nurses.
