Richard has been in AIDS care since becoming a nurse in 1991. He received his ACRN certification after siting for the exam in 1995. He specialized and continues to run HIV care and treatment programs. He runs a rural clinic (FQHC) that also supports monthly remote clinic sessions hosted by health departments on the lower eastern shore of Maryland. Richard has written nursing curricula for HIV care to be used in emerging countries of Africa. He has gone to former Soviet areas several times to teach both basic ARV treatment and mentored providers and nurses in Ukraine at several oblast health-centers. Richard has served on the HIV AIDS Nursing Certification Board since 2013.
