Jan Novak, BSN, ACRN, MA

Jan began her work with HIV/AIDS twenty five years ago in the emergency department of a hospital in Baltimore, MD. As a staff nurse, she worked with HIV-infected individuals during acute phases of their illnesses. Jan is currently employed at the Baltimore VA Medical Center, where, since 1995, she has worked specifically with veterans living with HIV in an outpatient clinic setting. Five years ago, Jan co-developed and implemented a nurse managed adherence program. In this role, she provides one-on-one education and counseling to patients and their families about HIV disease and HIV medications. She serves as a volunteer mentor in the Nurses SOAR! (Strengthening Our AIDS Response) Program. The goal of Nurses SOAR! is to strengthen the clinical and professional leadership capacity of nurses in three Southern African countries to provide HIV/AIDS services.   Jan is serving her first term on the HIV/AIDS National Certification Board (HANCB) as Chairperson for the Nominations Committee. Jan has been an AIDS certified Registered Nurse since 2006.
