Craig Nielsen
MS, NP, BC, ACRN
Craig Nielsen completed a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Master of Science (MS) from Creighton University in Omaha, NE. Craig has functioned as an NP in HIV care for 11 years, but also has clinical experience in home infusion, critical care, hospital medicine, and cardiology. He is currently employed as a Senior Instructor of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Colorado Denver, where he maintains a practice in the Infectious Diseases Group Practice at the University of Colorado Hospital, Aurora, Colorado. The Clinic provides care to over 1600 patients with HIV infection. Craig also teaches the didactic content for HIV to both the undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Colorado Denver, School of Nursing, and precepts graduate students for their clinical experiences.
Craig also functions as a Hospital Manager (house supervisor) for the University of Colorado Hospital. Prior to that, he practiced as a clinical nurse specialist in the Infectious Diseases Division at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.
He has been a member of ANAC since 1993, and an AIDS Certified Registered Nurse (ACRN) since 1997. He is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International, and has lectured nationally on topics related to the care of HIV-infected clients and their families. He has published several textbook chapters on HIV nursing care. Craig joined the HANCB Board of Directors in November, 2007 and serves as Chair of the Bylaws Committee.
